Press is oxygen to Democracy: Former President Dr Yadav

JALESWAR, Nov 17 : Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has said the Press is like oxygen for democracy. Inaugurating a new building of Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Mahottari here today, he said that democracy is strong in a country where the press is strong and independent.

Stating that the press played an important role in the overall development of the country, he said no country should limit the press, but instead promote full press freedom for the overall development of the country, society, and people.


"Any kind of restrictions to the press will put democracy at risk, which will, in turn, bring sufferings to the people and shut down doors to development," he said. General Secretary of FNJ Ramesh Bista accused all three tiers of government in Nepal of restricting the press.
