KATHMANDU, Oct 29: The online application system for driving license has been closed. Within four days of the Department of Transport Management opening applications for licenses for all types of vehicles, a technical problem was detected in the system. The online application system has been shut down since Thursday for repairs.
The department had announced online applications for the new license from 5 PM on Monday. However, a technical error occurred in the system, forcing the authorities to close the applications which had been opened after a hiatus of six months, said Loknath Bhusal, information officer for the department. He said that the server has been completely shut down since Wednesday when around 1 million people tried to fill the form at once. He said that the application will be opened as soon as possible as the team including technicians has already started the repair work.
Online application for driving license closes from November 17
There are still more than 350,000 people waiting in line to apply for driver's licenses. This number is highest in the Kathmandu Valley. There are four transport management offices in the Kathmandu Valley and 21 outside the Valley.
Information Officer Bhusal said that the turn of those who have already applied will come first. He informed Republica that the turn of those who have recently applied will come in four months if they are in the Kathmandu Valley and in one month if they are outside the Kathmandu Valley.
The department has started taking the license exam according to the new criteria. According to the new criteria, participants scoring 60 percent in written and 70 marks in different stages of trial examination will be passed.
