KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has suggested that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) keep in mind the prestige of a personality while investigating corruption cases.
Speaking at a program organized to mark the CIAA Day on Friday in the Capital, PM Dahal said that the anti-graft body should pay attention to whether its act is defaming a person while investigating the personality.

"Earlier this year, I experienced such a bitter situation when I was traveling to a neighboring nation as a Prime Minister. Such things should not be repeated," said Dahal. The CIAA, then led by disqualified chief Lokman Singh Karki, had organized a press conference suddenly and said that it would start investigation into the corruption related to the fund provided to manage cantonments of the then Maoist insurgents. However, the CIAA never made details public about the investigation or filed a corruption case at the court.
On the other hand, CIAA acting chief Deep Basnyat said that the government should work on reinstating the jurisdiction of the commission curtailed by the new constitution.
Previously, the CIAA had jurisdiction of investigating corruption and improper acts but the new constitution has limited the jurisdiction of the anti-corruption body to only investigating corruption committed by individuals in public positions.
