KATHMANDU, Dec 28: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) questioning the academic qualifications of Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari.
In the petition filed today, the petitioners have claimed that the academic qualification of Governor Adhikari is not sufficient to assume responsibility for the post. SC Joint-spokesperson Govinda Ghimire said that the hearing on the writ petition will take place on Friday.

The government appointed Adhikari as the governor of the Central Bank on April 6, 2020. According to Section 20 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act , the governor should have a master's degree in economics, monetary, banking, finance, commerce, management, public administration, statistics, mathematics or law and need to possess experience in the same field.
In the writ petitions, advocates Deepak Raj Joshi, Pratap Singh Thakurathi, Damodar Timilsana and Chudamani Bhandari have claimed that Adhikari has obtained the equivalence of a master's degree from Tribhuvan University but the law stipulates that he must have passed the master's level and hence us not qualified on the basis of equivalence.
