KATHMANDU, August 22: The Election Commission (EC) has decided not to allow the use of vehicles with foreign number plates in the elections to members of the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assembly, which is to be held on November 20.

In the election code of conduct proposed by the commission, it is mentioned that vehicles with foreign number plates will not be allowed in the election campaign. The Commission has brought a proposal targeting the district elections of Province 1, Madhesh, Gandaki, Lumbini and Far Western provinces, which share borders with India.

It is mentioned in the proposed code of conduct that a maximum of two two-wheeled, three-wheeled or four-wheeled light vehicles powered by electrical and mechanical power and maximum four horses can be used in places where such vehicles do not operate. But vehicles with foreign number plates will not be given such permission.

Similarly, the proposal that parties or candidates cannot transport voters using licensed vehicles is also mentioned in the code of conduct. In the previous elections, vehicles were rented cheaply from India and used in the elections in the border districts.
