USAID, AFU jointly organize a two-day conference to discuss the role of agricultural universities in driving social change

KATHMANDU, Dec 16: The USAID and the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) jointly organized a two-day international conference highlighting the role of agricultural universities and agricultural education in driving global socio-economic change.

KATHMANDU, Dec 16: The USAID and the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) jointly organized a two-day international conference highlighting the role of agricultural universities and agricultural education in driving global socio-economic change.



The conference, titled “The Evolution of Agriculture Higher Education: A Change Agent for Global Economic Growth,” featured international experts providing evidence-based results on how universities have contributed to national economic progress.

Addressing the gathering, Chancellor of Gandaki University, Ganesh Man Gurung, emphasized the importance of agricultural education as a cornerstone for sustainable economic development.


Also addressing the conference, USAID/Nepal Mission Director Sepideh Keyvansad reiterated USAID’s commitment to enhancing the quality of agricultural higher education through the USAID Agriculture Higher Education Activity. “USAID remains steadfast in its dedication to empowering Nepal’s Agriculture and Forestry University to effectively tackle food security challenges and contribute significantly to the country’s inclusive economic growth,” she affirmed.


The conference was organized in Kathmandu on December 11 and 12. The USAID Agriculture Higher Education Activity in Nepal is a collaborative effort between USAID/Nepal and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. Its objective is to enhance agricultural education in Nepal by fostering partnerships between Tuskegee University and AFU Nepal.


The Activity seeks to strengthen AFU’s capacity to meet the changing needs of Nepal’s agriculture sector, encompassing both public and private domains.
