KATHMANDU, March 13: The CPN-UML which was revived after the Supreme Court verdict recently is once again headed for a formal split after Chairman KP Oli took a unilateral decision to strip off the responsibilities of the leaders close to Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The Nepal-led UML faction has called a national gathering of party cadres and leaders close to it in Kathmandu on March 17 and 18 to discuss their future strategy as Oli appears bent on cornering them in the party. Sources said the meeting is likely to take a decision to formally split the party as Chairman Oli appears bent on further cornering the leaders close to the rival faction.

A Central Committee meeting of the Oli-led UML on Friday decided to reshuffle the responsibilities of the party leaders including those of the provincial in-charges of the party and chiefs of the party’s various departments. All leaders close to the Nepal-led faction of the UML were relieved from their party responsibilities.
According to the party’s Vice Chairman Bhim Rawal, the national gathering will be attended by the party’s Central Committee members, those representing the party’s central bodies, federal and provincial committees, and lawmakers belonging to federal parliament and provincial assembly. Chiefs and deputy chiefs of local governments and central members of various sister organizations of the party are also among those attending the meeting.
A meeting of the Nepal-led faction at Aryal Hotel in Kathmandu on Saturday also decided to reject all decisions taken by the Central Committee meeting of the Chairman Oli-led faction on Friday.
