JHAPA, July 6: CPN-UML has clinched mayoral and deputy mayoral posts in Birtamod Municipality.
UML mayoral candidate Dhruba Shivakoti has won the election with 9,110 votes, compared to 8,216 votes for his nearest rival Nepali Congress mayoral candidate Jal Kumar Gurung.

Likewise, UML deputy mayoral candidate Pabitra Mahatara has emerged victorious. She obtained 10437 votes, compared to 9011 votes for her closest rival Nepali Congress deputy mayoral candidate Parbata Giri.
Birtamod Municipality falls under Province-2 of Jhapa district considered as NC’s stronghold.
