Tourism department issues 128 climbing permits for spring

KATHMANDU, March 29: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has issued climbing permits to 128 people this spring climbing season so far. A total of 16 teams have received permits to scale various mountains and peaks across the country. The DoT has collected over USD 218,600 in royalty from issuing climbing permits as of Monday.

KATHMANDU, March 29: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has issued climbing permits to 128 people this spring climbing season so far. A total of 16 teams have received permits to scale various mountains and peaks across the country. The DoT has collected over USD 218,600 in royalty from issuing climbing permits as of Monday. 



According to a press release issued by the DoT on Monday, as many as 17 permits has been issued for Mt Nuptse, 23 permits for Mt Amadablam (6,814 meters), 25 permits for Annapurna 1 (8,091 meters) and 16 for Mt Himlung (7,126 meters) for this climbing season.

Similarly, two permits have been issued for Mt Gangapurna (7,455 meters), 11 for Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters), four for Mt Thapa peak (6,012 meters), five for Mt Lhotse (8,516 meters), and eight each for Mt Bemdang Ri (6,150 meters) and Mt Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters). 


Likewise, nine permits have been issued for Mt Sagarmatha (8848 meters) so far. Of the total permits issued, 96 are male climbers while 32 are females. Nepal has introduced 414 mountains and peaks for commercial mountaineering, of which 86 remain unclimbed to this day.
