SC orders NC Prez Deuba to furnish clarification on IGP case

KATHMANDU, April 6: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba to furnish clarification in writing 10 days after receiving the court summon letter.

KATHMANDU, April 6: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba to furnish clarification in writing 10 days after receiving the court summon letter.



A single bench of Justice Ishwor Khatiwada ordered NC President Deuba to this effect regarding a court contempt case.

Advocate Hari Prasad Mainali had registered the case at the SC on Sunday arguing that the decision made by the party's Central Committee meeting regarding the verdict on IGP case was an utter disrespect to the court, constituting a contempt of court. 


The Central Committee meeting of the NC concluded that the SC’s verdict breached the jurisdiction of the Executive and that it was against the principle of separation of power.


Revoking the government’s decision to appoint AIG Jaya Bahadur Chand as IGP of the Nepal Police, on March 21, the SC had issued an order to appoint a competent contender to the top post of based on work performance, seniority and competence as per the regulations.
