Parliamentary probe panel starts studying CCTV footage received from Finance Ministry

KATHMANDU, July 16: The Parliamentary Special Committee formed to investigate the alleged involvement of an ‘unauthorized person’ by former Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma to manipulate tax rates in the annual budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 has started studying the CCTV footage received from the Finance Ministry.

KATHMANDU, July 16: The Parliamentary Special Committee formed to investigate the alleged involvement of an ‘unauthorized person’ by former Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma to manipulate tax rates in the annual budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 has started studying the CCTV footage received from the Finance Ministry.



The meeting of the committee held at Singh Darbar on Saturday said that they are conducting study of CCTV cameras with special emphasis starting from the main gate of the Ministry of Finance.

Member Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee Surendra Aryal said that he had a discussion with the Director General of the Revenue and Customs Department on Saturday. He also said that he will have a discussion with the Revenue Secretary and Finance Secretary as well. 


He is also scheduled to hold discussion with the heads of various divisions of the Ministry of Finance today itself. “We are conducting an investigation related to the budgeting process. We are now focusing on the footage of the CCTV installed at the Ministry of Finance's main door,” he said.


Secretary Aryal said the discussion will focus on the technical issue of CCTV cameras today and the study will be completed within the deadline. An 11-member parliamentary probe committee was formed to investigate the role of former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma in involving ‘unauthorized’ persons to revise tax rates in the course of the preparation of the annual budget for the fiscal year 2022/23.
