SC urges all to respect judicial sanctity as it courts public criticisms over a case involving former DIG Koirala

KATHMANDU, July 28: The Supreme Court on Monday called upon all concerned to respect the judicial sanctity while making any comments, analysis or expressing dissatisfaction in relation to any judicial activity.

KATHMANDU, July 28: The Supreme Court on Monday called upon all concerned to respect the judicial sanctity while making any comments, analysis or expressing dissatisfaction in relation to any judicial activity.



The apex court in a statement said that its attention has been drawn on the attack on sanctity of the judiciary while making comments and analysis and expressing dissatisfaction in relation to its June 29 verdict in relation to a case involving former DIG of Armed Police Force (APF) Ranjan Koirala, who was convicted of murdering his own wife Geeta Dhakal. 


On Sunday, the apex court decided to review the verdict issued by Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana and Justice Tej Bahadur KC in response to the review petition filed by the government.

In the press release issued by Spokesperson Bhadrakali Pokhrel, the apex court called upon all to think towards the dignity of the judiciary, while stating that its attention has been drawn on the news analysis, commentaries as well as the activities in the pretext while commenting its judicial task.


"The settlement of any dispute registered in the Supreme Court is being carried out on the basis of the Constitution, laws and the accepted principle of justice. Therefore, any aggrieved party may seek the remedy according to the set process and norms," read the press statement.


The apex court also called upon all concerned not to make any comment on any sub-judice matter being considered with an intention to improperly interfere in the judicial task. The court stated that it is committed to the principles of independent, fair and competent judiciary and restoring the rule of law and to promote the public confidence in the judiciary.
