SAFF Ordinary Congress rejects ANFA’s statute amendment proposal

KATHMANDU, May 1: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)’s statute amendment proposal has been rejected by the Ordinary Congress of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
ANFA had proposed an amendment for the right to vote for no-confidence against any member or position-bearer at SAFF at any given time. The congress refused any sort of discussion on the matter and rejected the proposed change.
ANFA General Secretary Indra Man Tuladhar said the amendment proposal was made in line with democratic principles. “We have similar provision in the statute of every other sports body of Nepal. Hence, under democratic principles, we proposed that amendment which was rejected.”
Mani Kunwar, former president of ANFA, who is a current vice-president at SAFF, accused the current ANFA leadership of planning to remove him from the position despite several years left in his tenure.
Kunwar confirmed that a letter was sent to the assembly to nominate Karma Tshering Sherpa as the vice-president which was declined by the congress. “They formally proposed in writing to nominate Sherpa as the vice-president of SAFF, citing my non-involvement in current ANFA. It was rejected by the congress.”
He further added that the congress finalized the organization of the age-level tournaments, U-18 in Nepal and U-15 in India, as well as confirmation of Sri Lankan Anurag de Silva as another vice-president of the SAFF to participate as Asian Football Confederation (AFC) member.
The U-18 tournament will be held in September 20-28. Similarly, the congress also finalized on several other age-level tournaments like men’s U-15 championship on August 22-31 in India and women’s U-15 championship on October 9-18 in Bhutan or Bangladesh.
The ordinary congress was slated to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka but was moved to Kathmandu after recent serial terrorist bomb blasts in the country.
