KATHMANDU, April 12: One of the ruling alliances, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has decided to support the revised constitution amendment bill. However, the party has objected to some clauses of the bill.

The fourth largest party in the House has decided to back the bill if the Madhesh-based parties will participate in the upcoming local election stipulated for May 14.

“Though the party differs on some points, it would support the bill if it would ensure participation of Madheshi parties in the local level elections slated for May 14”, reads the statement issued by the party spokesperson  Sushil Kumar Shrestha.

The government had registered the 11-point constitution amendment bill at the Legislature –Parliament on Tuesday hoping that the main opposition CPN-UML and the UDMF would agree to the bill.

However, the CPN-UML and the Madhesh-based parties have already opposed the bill arguing that the bill would strip the local bodies of its rights.

Meanwhile, the statement has informed that the party would take decision on Friday, regarding the Election Commission’s decision to delete a section of its charter of the Hindu state and the constitutional monarchy.

Likewise, the party decided to allocate the right to form alliances for the local polls to district committees so as to ensure the party’s victory in maximum places and the district committees should take approval from the central committee for the tie-up with the other parties.
