BIRGUNJ, Dec 11: Raxaul locals have obstructed the entry of the trucks laden with raw materials to Nepal through the border entry point staging a sit-in near the Indian Customs Office since Sunday morning.
Nepali importers are forced to bear the brunt of the disputes between the locals and Indian Railways.
They resorted to obstruction demanding to stop pollution at the railway yard through which Nepali factories in Parsa-Bara Corridor import raw materials.
“We have only one demand, no more pollution at the yard,” said Ranjit Singh, Coordinator of the Clean Raxaul Campaign, “We were forced to halt the transportation to press the government to address the demand.”
Chairman of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Birgung Chapter, Pradip Kedia told Republica Online that import of raw materials including clinkers for cement factories has come to a complete halt following the obstruction.
Local businessmen have accused the government of turning a deaf ear to their grievance.
Mainly, clinkers, iron ore, gypsum and coal among others are loaded and unloaded at the railway yard.
