Rana and Lohani to merge parties to form RPP (Samyukta)

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Prajatantrik) headed by Pashupati Shumshere Rana and the Ekikrit Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Rastrabadi) headed by Prakash Chandra Lohani are merging to form a new party on Friday. The two parties in a joint statement said they will announce the unification at a function in Kathmandu on Friday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Prajatantrik) headed by Pashupati Shumshere Rana and the Ekikrit Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Rastrabadi) headed by Prakash Chandra Lohani are merging to form a new party on Friday. The two parties in a joint statement said they will announce the unification at a function in Kathmandu on Friday.



The new party will be called Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Samyukta), according to the leaders of the party. The chairmen of the two parties will jointly head the new party, which will advocate a ceremonial monarchy and Hindu state.

In the press statement signed jointly by the chairmen of the two parties, they have urged the supporters of the two parties to attend the unification function and celebrate the move by lighting lamps at party offices across the country.


Most of leaders from the party are from the pre-1990 Panchyat backgrounds.


Both the parties have no representation in the federal parliament but they have three seats in provincial assemblies—two in Province 3 and one in Province 1.


In the joint-press statement Rana and Lohani have stated that they agreed to unite their parties to stop the current government from promoting crony capitalism.
