Province 1 worst hit by COVID-19 with 31 cases; no case in Karnali so far (with video)

KATHMANDU, May 4: Of the seven provinces in Nepal, Province 1 has been worst-affected by the pandemic of coronavirus disease. Province 1 has witnessed the highest number of coronavirus disease  (COVID-19) cases. As of Monday, 31 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the province. Of the 75 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, none is from Karnali Province.

KATHMANDU, May 4: Of the seven provinces in Nepal, Province 1 has been worst-affected by the pandemic of coronavirus disease. Province 1 has witnessed the highest number of coronavirus disease  (COVID-19) cases. As of Monday, 31 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the province. Of the 75 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, none is from Karnali Province. 



According to Dr Bikash Devkota, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, the second-highest number of COVID-19 patients has been confirmed in Province 5. Seventeen - 1 from Rupandehi and 16 from Nepalgunj of Banke were diagnosed with this disease in just two days -- Friday and Sunday. Fifteen cases were detected on Sunday itself. The patients are undergoing treatment at the Butwal-based COVID-19 hospital and the Nepalgunj-based Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital, according to Dr Devkota. 


Province 2, on the other hand, has reported a total of 13 cases while seven patients have contracted the virus in Bagmati Province. Five and three patients from Sudur Paschim and Gandaki Province respectively tested positive for this disease.

Of the 75 COVID-19 patients, 58 are males and 17 are females. 


While no death due to COVID-19 has been reported so far, 16 of the confirmed cases have already recovered. Fifty-nine COVID-19 patients who are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country are doing well, according to health ministry spokesperson Dr Devkota. 


Similarly, 106 patients -- one in the capital and 105 out of the Valley - have been put in isolation wards while 21,523 are in quarantine facilities set up in various parts of the country. 


Some 13,640 people have been tested via the PCR method whereas 50,845 RDT tests have been conducted as of Monday.
