Retired professors spearhead tree plantation in Pashupati area

KATHMANDU, August 2: A group of retired professors of Kathmandu-based Institute of Forestry have planted trees around the Pashupati area.

KATHMANDU, August 2: A group of retired professors of Kathmandu-based Institute of Forestry have planted trees around the Pashupati area.



On Wednesday, the group planted trees around the Kailash Parbat, a small hillock in the Pashupati area, in coordination with the Environment and Sanitation Branch of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT).

The group planted 50 plants of different species holding religious  significance. Among them were 20 Bel, 20 Rudraksha, five Shrikhanda and five Buddhachitta trees.


Prof Dr Bir Bahadur Khanal Chhetri, dean of the Institute of Forestry, led the tree plantation program which was attended by retired professors Dr Bimal Koirala, Professor Chiranjivi Upadhyaya, Prof Dr Ram Prasad Manandhar, Professor Awadhesh Singh, Professor Achyut Raj Gyawali, Associate Professor Jibnath Pandey, Sunita Singh, Prakash Singh, Prof. Dr Ridish Kumar Pokharel, Prof. Mohan Krishna Balla and PADT environmental experts Rewati Raman Adhikari and Ishwar Man Bhandari.


It is said that the plants planted in the Kailash Parbat on the premises of the Pashupatinath temple have religious and spiritual significance as well as play an important role in making the environment pure.
