Prez appoints Chief Election Commissioner, justices

KATHMANDU, April 19: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya as the Chief Election Commissioner and five justices at the Supreme Court.

KATHMANDU, April 19: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya as the Chief Election Commissioner and five justices at the Supreme Court.



The justices are: Prakash Kumar Dhungana, Sushma Lata Mathema, Kumar Regmi, Hari Prasad Phuyal and Manoj Kumar Sharma.

On April 17, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has unanimously endorsed the nominee, Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya as the Chief Election Commissioner.


The election body has remained headless following the retirement of Ayodhee Prasad Yadav in late March.
