KATHMANDU, May 11: Police have arrested a group of people allegedly involved in the selling and black-marketeering of fake oximeters in Kathmandu.


Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from the Metropolitan Crime Division, Kathmandu, nabbed seven individuals, according to the division. Of the arrested people, one is Indian national.

The arrested people have been identified as Shekhar Shrestha, 29, of Sindhuli district currently operating a pharmacy named Bio-Plus in Balkhu, Kathmandu, Thum Raj Upadhya, 21, of Bhajura, currently living at Kupondole, Seshkanta Adhikari, 27, of Syangja, currently operating a pharmacy named Nanotech Pharma at Thapathali, Pushkar Ghimire, 31 of Sunsari currently associated with Chirayu KD Group.pvt.ltd, Bishal Acharya, 44 of Morang, currently associated with Aaha Industrial Company Pvt Ltd and Santosh Bhandari, 21, of Sindhupalchowk currently living in Bagbazar, Kathmandu.


Likewise, an Indian national, Jagadish Prasad Ranasahiya from Rajasthan, currently living at Dhunge Adda in Kathmandu, has also been arrested on the same charge.


It is learnt that these people were selling oximeters worth Rs 600 to 700 at least at Rs 2,220 per unit. The police have also confiscated 738 sets of fake oximeters. 


Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.


An oximeter is a medical device used to measure the level of oxygen in human blood.
