KATHMANDU, Jan 31: DNA tests have started to identify the bodies of six people who died in the recent Pokhara air crash and could not be identified as they were burnt and disfigured badly.
The head of the Forensic Medicine Department at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Dr Gopal Kumar Chaudhary, stated that the bodies were badly burnt in the accident and can only be identified through the DNA analysis.

According to him, the identification of the bodies has started in the DNA laboratory of Nepal Police. He said that the DNA samples of the family had been collected and the DNA of the bones and teeth of the six bodies had been extracted and sent to the laboratory. It is said that it will take at least two weeks to identify the bodies through this method.
Out of the 48 bodies brought to Kathmandu, 42 bodies were identified through forensics and fingerprints. Forensic examination of the bodies of 22 people has been identified in Pokhara.
On January 15, all 72 people on board including four crew members died when the plane of Yeti Airlines, which was going from Kathmandu to Pokhara, crashed in the gorge of the Seti River.
