‘Panorama 60’s: Pioneers of Nepali Modernism’ that showcased the post-1960s Nepali art is scheduled to conclude on Thursday. The exhibition features the work of eight modernist art pioneers, including Manuj Babu Mishra, Shashi Bikram Shah, Batsa Gopal Vaidya, Krishna Manandhar, Ramananda Joshi, Indra Pradhan, Gehendra Man Amatya, and Shashi Kala Tiwari.

According to the press statement released by Bikalpa Arts Center (BAC), the decade of the 1960s was the turning point for modernism in Nepal, with modernist trends, embodying ideas of artistic experimentation, and innovation, being introduced from Europe. However, while European modernism was an anti-establishment movement, modern art in Nepal was embraced by the art establishment.
The exhibition also goes down in the history as Manuj Babu Mishra’s final exhibition. It showcased two artworks of the late artist. However, his oeuvre is believed to continue to inspire generations of futures arts to come, stated the press release.
