KATHMANDU, March 27: A parliamentary subcommittee has recommended against the government's proposal to authorize Armed Police Force to issue arrest warrant.

In a report submitted to the State Affairs Committee, one of its subcommittees has argued that the proposal, if implemented, might result in dispute between the APF and the Nepal Police, which is currently the sole security agency that can issue arrest warrant.

Jurisdictions and work areas of the APF should be determined in line with the objectives of its formation, the committee has said in its recommendation presented on Tuesday.

"Giving same power and jurisdiction to two different agencies will invite disagreements. It may also affect the law and order management," reads the recommendation.

The government had two years ago proposed authorizing the APF to issue arrest warrant, but the move was strongly objected by the Nepal police.
