BANKE, July 6: This year, paddy plantation has been delayed in Banke district. The plantation was delayed due to the incessant rain. According to Sagar Dhakal, Chief of Agricultural Knowledge Center, Banke, only about five percent of paddy has been transplanted till June end.
Compared to last year's transplantation, this is very low, said Dhakal. He added that in the last year, around 40 percent of paddy had been transplanted during this period. “Usually the plantation ends by the end of Ashar in Banke, which is why it has not affected production,” he said.
Nepal sees 67.3 percent of paddy transplantation till date
Most of the farmers in Banke are still forced to transplant paddy with the help of rain water. Very few farmers have been planting using tube wells. Meanwhile, farmers are relieved that their seeds won’t expire due to the heavy rainfall which occurred during the National Paddy Day.
Farmers have been busy planting after heavy rains since Wednesday night. Even this year, farmers have not received fertilizers at the time of planting paddy. Paddy is being planted in an area of 36,500 hectares in Banke.
