KATHMANDU, May 10: CPN-UML Chairman K P Oli has raised question about the impartiality of the judiciary.

Addressing an election rally organized by the party’s Kathmandu District Chapter in Bhrikutimandap on Tuesday, Chairman Oli, whose move to dissolve parliament was overturned by the Supreme Court, alleged that the apex court had endorsed the decision to dissolve parliament by Nepali Congress while it overturned the same decision taken by the UML terming it ‘unconstitutional’.

“It is endorsed when the Congress dissolves it, but it is overturned when it is done by the UML. It is termed as democratic and constitutional when parliament is dissolved by the Congress. But it is termed unconstitutional and undemocratic when parliament is dissolved by the UML,” he vented his ire in an apparent bid to justify his move to dissolve parliament twice when he faced problem within his party last year. “The court has been passing the same kinds of verdict till date.”

Chairman Oli said that they want to see the court as respected and trustworthy institution to people. While stating that he has desire to see justices’ appointment independent and neutral, he said that party cadres are directly becoming justices at the Supreme Court.
