KATHMANDU, May 2: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has asked payment service providers to continue their everyday business through less than 20 percent of the workforce in the locations where prohibitory orders have been enforced.

The central bank came up with a circular on Sunday after the government authorities decided to tighten the traffic flow in various districts, including the three districts in the Kathmandu Valley, in a bid to check the COVID-19 spread. Earlier, the district administration offices in the Valley on Saturday through a public notice pointed out that mobility has increased mainly due to the full-fledged operations of the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) and the government offices.

NRB has directed the players of payment systems including the BFIs and remit companies to minimize the face-to-face transactions. Instead, the companies can maximize the use of the information technology to manage work from home and remote access for their daily operations, reads the NRB’s statement.
