KATHMANDU, Dec 10: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has permitted the South Korea-bound migrant workers to carry additional up to US $ 1,500 citing the expenses that the workers have to incur while staying in the quarantine posts there.

Revising the Unified Directive on Thursday, NRB has come up with providing special privileges to the Korea-bound workers. Currently, the central bank has been allowing only USD 200 to the migrant workers going to other foreign employment destination countries.

While reopening its job market for foreign workers following a decline in cases of the coronavirus, the South Korean government has maintained the clause that the incoming workers must have a negative result on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test conducted at designated local hospitals within 72 hours before boarding a flight to South Korea. “All migrant workers, whether they are inoculated or not, must undergo 10 days of self-quarantine at state-operated facilities upon arriving in the country,” reads the directive of the Korean authority.

According to NRB, based on the recommendation letters of the Department of Foreign Employment, Nepali workers going to Korea can exchange the aforementioned limit of the USD by using electronic cards.
