KATHMANDU, April 2: President of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), Jeevan Ram Shrestha, bade farewell to the participants for the Pambangunan Jaya Raya Junior Grand Prix that is slated to be held from April 2 to 8 in South Tangerang, Indonesia.
Manager Binod Basnet and athlete Rukesh Maharjan left Sunday to take part in the badminton tournament in which 20 to 25 countries are participating, NOC said in a statement.

It is stated that the tournament will help increase the ranking of the player, which will help for participation in the Youth Olympic Games as well. Shrestha, who is also an elected member of the House of Representatives from UML, extended his best wishes to the participants and asked them not to participate just for the sake of participating but to win merits.
He added that despite badminton being one of the oldest sports in Nepal, the players have not been able to participate in the Olympic Games.
“So this is a great opportunity for Maharjan to improve his ranking in order to become the first participant from Nepal in the Olympic Games,” he said. President of Nepal Badminton Association (NBA) Ramji Shrestha and chief coach Sudip Yenjen were also present on the occasion.
