Statement of Neelam Kumar Sharma

Republica published a news item titled “TU research head found plagiarizing” on June 4. I served at Tribhuban University for 38 years and retired in May 2019. I honestly worked all these years to advance academic excellence at our nation’s oldest university. While my paper titled “Globalization and Its Impact on the Third World Economy” might have lapses in citing proper sources, I reiterate that I have worked against plagiarism throughout my academic life. I will dedicate the rest of my retirement in working and researching on issues that will meaningfully contribute to advancing our society.

Republica acknowledges that the software used in scanning Sharma’s article was not up to the standard. We will further strengthen our fact-checking system in the days to come. Our sincere apologies to Neelam Kumar Sharma.
