KATHMANDU, April 18 Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun has said that no extra charges will be levied on consumers if they are able to settle electricity tariff bill till May 20.

Minister Pun clarified this through his social media after confusion was created among consumers after NEA Managing Director Kul Man Ghising said on Friday that the NEA would be forced to charge fine if consumers were not able to settle the due amount on time.

Ordinary people had taken to the social media to criticize the decision saying that it would be impossible to settle the bill as they are not allowed to visit the NEA office due to nationwide lockdown.

Minister Pun said that a decision allows consumers to settle their tariff due till May 20 was already made and circulars were issued to all NEA branch offices across the country. "Public concern and discussion was seen on the issue of electricity tariff. No penalty will be levied if the electricity bill is settled by May 20," he wrote in his Facebook. "A decision and directives to this effect have already been made."

Minister Pun, however, has urged all those who can pay the electricity tariff through online payment mode to pay it in advance in order to help save the NEA from facing financial risk.
