NMA to provide relief to 3,000 tourism workers

KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has decided to provide relief to 3,000 tourism workers affected by COVID-19.



NMA President Santa Bir Lama said that relief is being provided to the financially-weak people affected by COVID-19 among the mountaineers affiliated to the association. The relief is being provided with the help of Japan's Nippon Foundation.

The announcement was made at a function held in Kathmandu on Wednesday in the presence of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale. President Lama said that relief would be distributed within the next three months.


It is said that relief will be provided to tourism workers as well as leprosy patients. The Nippon Foundation has agreed to provide US dollar 213,000 (approximately Rs 25.5 million) for relief distribution. Relief will be provided by selecting from the around 11,000 workers affiliated to the association.


Similarly, the association will also distribute health supplies at the isolation centers constructed for COVID-19 treatment. About 500 climbers will be given oxygen cylinders which are essential during an ascent.
