NHRC urges govt to rescue stranded Nepalis

KATHMANDU, April 2: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to manage accommodation and security of people who have been stranded due to lockdown while returning home from abroad.

KATHMANDU, April 2: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to manage accommodation and security of people who have been stranded due to lockdown while returning home from abroad.



The NHRC, in a statement issued on Thursday by NHRC Secretary Bed Prasad Bhattarai, said Nepalis remain stranded at Nepal's borders with neighboring countries be ensured security and basic human rights in line with set standards.

"It is the main responsibility of the government to ensure security and basic human rights to its citizens in view of lockdown across the globe over COVID-19," read the statement.


"Citizens of a country expect government's support and help. The government's high-level representatives should monitor their health, accommodation and food supply and create an environment for them to return home safely."


The government should become serious about their security and fundamental rights in line with the constitution and laws, and concerned government bodies are expected to coordinate in rescuing them by mobilizing necessary resources, read the statement.
