Nepali taekwondo team leaving for South Korea

KATHMANDU, June 20: A 21-member Nepali taekwondo team, including players and officials, is leaving for South Korea on Wednesday to take part in three different tournaments.

KATHMANDU, June 20: A 21-member Nepali taekwondo team, including players and officials, is leaving for South Korea on Wednesday to take part in three different tournaments. 



A total of 10 Nepali players will take part in the World Taekwondo Championships 2017 to be held in Muju from June 24 to 30.

Similarly, the same team will also compete in the Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships slated for July 2 to 7 in Chuncheon.


In the world championships and Korea open championships, Tara Kumar Rayamajhi, Sagar Gubaju and Bir Bahadur Mahara will compete in men's U-54kg, U-58kg and U-63 kg categories respectively. Similarly, Ranjan Shrestha, Nischal Man Shrestha and Sksham Karki will take part in the men's U-68kg, U-74 kg and U-87 kg categories respectively. 


Likewise in the women's section of the both competitions, Rejina Karki, Nima Gurung and Gyani Chunara will compete in U-46 kg, U-53 kg and U-57 kg categories while Olympian Nisha Rawal will take part in above 73 kg category. 


A total of three Nepali players will take part in the 3rd Asian Para Taekwondo Open Championships which also will be held in Chuncheon. Rohit Hang Rai will compete in men's U-75 kg category while Ranjana Dhami and Palesha Gobardhan will take part in the women's U-49 kg and U-58 kg categories. 


Meanwhile Lalitpur Metropolitan City's newly elected Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan and Deputy Mayor Gita Satyal among others bade farewell to the South Korea-bound team on the premises of the Metropolitan city office.
