KATHMANDU, May 14: The government has set up a border outpost (BOP) of the Armed Police Force (AFP) at Chhangru of Byas rural municipality in Darchula on Wednesday afternoon.

A squadron of APF left for Darchula on Wednesday morning to set up an APF’s unit in that area to safeguard Nepali territories around Lipu Lekh Pass.

The outpost is near Kalapani, a Nepali territory occupied by Indian military forces for decades.

Twenty-five APF personnel have been deployed under the command of Inspector Mili Bahadur Chand. Earlier, they were airlifted to Chhangru by a Nepali Army’s MI-17 helicopter.

The move comes a week after Indian side constructed a strategic road link to Manasarovar of Tibetan Autonomous Region of China via Lipulekh, a Nepali territory, without Nepal's consent.

India built a road from Pithoragadh of Uttarakhand State of India to Lipu Lekhbhanjyang via Gunji of Kalapani on the Nepali side of the border.

Deputy Superintendent Dambar Bahadur Bishta of the APF said that the 25-member team would be stationed there to protect the bordering areas near Kalapani.
