Negotiations continue between NMA and govt representatives

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Negotiations between the representatives of the government and the agitating Nepal Medical Association (NMA) are continuing at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar. Talks are being held as the NMA went on strike today by stopping all services except for emergency services.

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Negotiations between the representatives of the government and the agitating Nepal Medical Association (NMA) are continuing at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar. Talks are being held as the NMA went on strike today by stopping all services except for emergency services.



On behalf of the government,  Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Ganesh Pandey, is leading the talks team, while NMA President Dr Lochan Karki is leading the talks team on behalf of the agitating doctors.

On February 10, during the presidential escort of President Bidya Devi Bhandari, a doctor at the National Trauma Center was physically assaulted by the security personnel. Health institutions across the country have stopped all services except for emergency ones protesting against the incident.


Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Population has requested NMA to withdraw its protest and resume work. The ministry said it has also formed a negotiation team to resolve the issue. Nepal Police has already suspended the police constable, who allegedly beat up Dr Janith Lal Singh.
