KATHMANDU, March 3: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said he won’t shy away from the responsibility of holding the prime ministerial portfolio if such an opportunity arises in the country.

Addressing a function organized by the party in Chitwan on Wednesday, former prime minister Deuba said that he will, however, not beg with other parties to secure the post of prime minister for him.

Deuba said that NC will take initiatives to lead the government if other parties offer NC to take the historic responsibility. “I have not asked anyone to offer me the post of prime minister. But if there is a need to take the responsibility, I won’t shy away from the responsibility,” he further said.

Deuba maintained that NC won’t have the opportunity to head the government unless the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) that has nearly two-thirds majority members in the 275-member parliament is formally split. He said that NC will take a decision whether to form a coalition government at an appropriate time in the future.
