MC meet agrees to nominate Mahara as speaker

KATHMANDU, Mar 9: A meeting of CPN-Maoist Center early morning today has agreed to nominate Krishna Bahadur Mahara as speaker of House of Representatives.

KATHMANDU, Mar 9: A meeting of CPN-Maoist Center early morning today has agreed to nominate Krishna Bahadur Mahara as speaker of House of Representatives.



With handful of senior Maoist leaders vying for the post, the meeting was held at Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence at Khumaltar. Other leaders who had pinned hopes to become the speaker were Dev Gurung, Agni Sapkota, Haribol Gajurel, Pampha Bhushal and Lekhraj Bhatta. With President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to be reelected, former speaker, Onsari Gharti Magar had also pinned her hopes to continue as the speaker.

Candidates vying to become Speaker will be filing their nomination from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Secretariat of Federal Parliament today.


Upon completion, the secretariat will publish final name lists and parliamentarians will cast their votes at 1 PM tomorrow.  To be elected as the Speaker, a candidate must receive a minimum of 138 votes.
