KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Three District Administration Offices (DAOs) in Kathmandu Valley have decided to lift the odd-even rule for public transport including buses, microbuses and three-wheelers.

A meeting of the Chief District Officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur held on Friday, however, decided to continue enforcing the rule in case of taxis and all kinds of private vehicles.

The decision comes in the wake of COVID-19 Crisis Management Coordination Committee (CCMCC) making recommendations to remove the odd-even rule in case of public vehicles including buses, microbuses and three-wheelers. The CCMC had concluded that the implementation of odd-even rule had only increased risk of further transmission of COVID-19 as most  public vehicles were seen overcrowded after the odd-even rule was enforced in a bid to contain further spread of COVID-19.

The CCMCC meeting held on Friday also decided to recommend schools and colleges to continue with virtual classes till mid- February. Earlier, the CCMC meeting had decided to suspend physical classes in schools and colleges till January end.
