KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Chief Executive Officer of Teach for Nepal, Swastika Shrestha has said that their organization is willing to hand over their model of recruiting young people in government schools to the government  as the model seems to be working pretty efficiently in enhancing the performance of both the schools and the students.

Talking to Republica on #2030 on Friday, Shrestha said that there are a lot of challenges in the education sector at micro and macro levels. “Since Teach for Nepal works at the micro level, one of the major problems we explored is the lack of leadership in teachers and schools in general which is mandatory in an inefficient education system,” she added. They also lack the willingness to make the lives of children better, according to the CEO.

Ashrina Ranju, who also joined the interview along with Shrestha, said that Nepal has only been focusing on increasing the literacy rate. “However, the quality of education highly depends upon the circumstances through which a child is going to school, so teachers should also be conscious of the family and infrastructural circumstances.”

They also opined that the education sector should be reformed as soon as possible. “Sadly, the government has only focused on increasing the number and statistics till this date, but not about the quality of education.”
