This is the first meeting of the party’s Standing Committee after the Supreme Court on Sunday issued a verdict scrapping the name of the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The apex court also revived the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist and Leninist) and CPN (Maoist Center), through its verdict on a plea registered by Rishiram Kattel who claimed that the name of the ruling NCP clashed with his party’s name

According to a party’s Standing Committee member Pampha Bhusal, the meeting will dwell upon contemporary political issues. The meeting is also likely to discuss and take necessary decisions on whether to withdraw the support granted to the Oli-led government.

The Standing Committee members close to Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa are not present in today’s meeting as the leaders including Thapa, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Mani Thapa are still in the Oli-led Cabinet. They are less likely to leave the Oli-camp and join their former party according to sources.
