KATHMANDU, Feb 14: Chairperson of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal has reiterated that the US government's Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement cannot be ratified in its current form.

Claiming that there are some doubts regarding the MCC, the former prime minister said Nepal has adopted a non-aligned foreign policy and the country should not be a battleground under any pretexts.

Addressing an event organized in Kathmandu on Sunday, Chairman Nepal said that the party was actively working for the welfare of people and society and advancing towards socialism. Claiming that the coalition parties in the incumbent government time and again have discussed continuation of the alliance until three-tier elections, he directed party leaders and cadres to unite against regressive forces and confidently join their duty.

Meanwhile, sister organizations of the CPN (Unified Socialist) on Sunday staged nationwide protests demanding amendments in some of the provisions of the MCC compact agreement. "The project is not in the interest of the nation. So, we have demanded that it should not be ratified in its current form," said Jagannath Khatiwada, Chief of the party’s Publicity Department.
