KATHMANDU, July 21: The Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to hear a writ petition challenging the appointment of KP Sharma Oli as Nepal's new Prime Minister. The hearing will be conducted by Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal on Sunday.
Prime Minister Oli is set to seek a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives today.

The petition, filed on Monday by Advocates Khagendra Chapagain, Shailendra Gupta, and Deepak Adhikari, argues that Oli's appointment should be annulled and a new Prime Minister should be appointed in accordance with Article 76 (3) of the Constitution.
President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli under Article 76 (2) after the previous Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, failed to secure a vote of confidence. The petitioners argue that following Dahal's loss of confidence in parliament, the new Prime Minister should have been appointed according to Article 76 (3) and that the parliamentary party leader of the largest party in parliament should have been considered for that.
The petitioners have named the Office of the President, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Secretariat of Parliament, and the House of Representatives as defendants in the case.
