KATHMANDU, November 17: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh has objected to the attempt to evict the landless, slum dwellers and unorganized residents of Kathmandu during the elections.

He said that such a step would be against the election code of conduct. Addressing the election program held this morning in the slum of Jagriti Nagar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31, leader Singh, who is also the candidate for the House of Representatives from Kathmandu Constituency No. 1, said that the landless, slum dwellers and unorganized residents should wait for the recommendations of the Land Commission's report.

Objecting to the notification issued to remove the settlements along the Bagmati River, he said, "We all have to wait until the recommendations given by the empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee in the report of the National Land Commission are implemented."

He said that the government should formulate a policy to find a proper solution for unorganized settlements, risky settlements, slum dwellers and landless people. Asserting that he will not give false assurances like the leaders of other parties, Leader Singh urged them to discuss the recommendations of the Land Commission's report with the stakeholders and to be confident in finding a solution to the problem.

Stating that he is committed to fulfilling the wishes, aspirations and desires of the landless people, he said, “If you have noticed, I have been speaking about this matter in parliament or in public events as well.”

He urged them to vote for NC in the upcoming elections.
