Indian Police in Nepal to find Amritpal, his aide Papalpreet detained in Punjab

KATHMANDU, April 10:  The Indian Police have launched a manhunt for Amritpal Singh and teams of Indian Police are reportedly in Nepal to find the separatist leader.



According to media reports, the Indian Police have arrested Palpreet Singh, a close aide of Khalistan separatist leader Amritpal, from Punjab. 


The Indian Express on Monday reported that Palpreet was arrested from Hoshiyarpur in Punjab by a joint team of Punjab Police and Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police. It is said that Palpreet Singh is now in the custody of Amritsar Rural Police.

Papalpreet was also wanted in the Ajnala violence case registered at the Ajnala police station on February 25.


On the other hand, the Indian government asked the Nepal government to be alert that Amritpal Singh might have entered Nepal. Currently, Indian security officials are in Nepal in search of Amritpal, according to security sources. It has been learnt that the teams of Indian Police came to Nepal before April 3 through Birganj in Parsa and Jamunah in Banke border area.


"They have come to Nepal by land. Although they have informal contact with Nepal's security officials, they have not met formally," said a senior security official. 


According to security sources, a six-member team from the Intelligence Bureau of India has come to Nepal under the leadership of Nagesh Chaudhary to search for Amritpal as he is believed to be in Nepal. The Indian Embassy, ​​through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asked Nepal's security officials and the Immigration Department to monitor Amritpal, suspecting that he has been hiding in Nepal. The  Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department have also been searching for Amritpal. 


Spokesman for Nepal Police, DIG Posh Raj Pokharel said that the security agencies are looking for Amritpal, who is campaigning for 'Khalistan' demanding a separate state in India.
