Malaysia says search for missing plane to end in June

The company has been commissioned by the Malaysian government on a “no-find, no-fee” basis to find the wreckage or black boxes of the airliner within three months. The contract is worth between $20 million and $70 million depending on where the plane is found. The missing plane, a Boeing 777, was carrying 239 people en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur when it disappeared from radar screens in March 2014. The initial deep-sea search – jointly conducted by Australia, China and Malaysia – was called off in January 2017.

The only traces of the plane that have so far been found are fragments of wreckage washed up on the western shores of the Indian Ocean.
