KATHMANDU, Jan 15: The air quality in the Kathmandu Valley has deteriorated in the morning hours between 10 and 11 with a PM2.5 reading of 218.58 μg/m³.
Morning hours are highly polluted: Data shows
The lowest PM2.5 reading (145 μg/m³) was recorded between 4 AM and 5 AM early in the morning. The air quality of the country’s capital city has witnessed serious deterioration in recent days. The most populous city, on Thursday, recorded the highest of PM2.5 reading of 242 μg/m³.
Though the World Health Organization (WHO) states that healthy air should not exceed 25 μg/m³ of PM2.5, Kathmandu, one of the world’s most polluted cities, reported the poorest air quality exposing the city dwellers to multiple health issues. The data collected from various pollution monitoring stations installed at 17 different places in the Valley shows that the dust particles in the air are far higher than that of government-set guidelines of 40 μg/m³.
