Inflation in Sri Lanka drops to 4 pct in August

COLOMBO, Sep 1: The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) indicates that Sri Lanka's key inflation rate has eased to 4 percent in August from 6.3 percent in July, the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) said on Thursday.

COLOMBO, Sep 1: The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) indicates that Sri Lanka's key inflation rate has eased to 4 percent in August from 6.3 percent in July, the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) said on Thursday.



Issuing a report, the DCS said food inflation, which stood at -1.4 percent in July, was -4.8 percent in August.

The department said this indicates a decrease of 39.08 rupees (around 0.12 U.S. dollar) in the consumer basket which includes 392 items, representing the typical items used in an urban household.


The inflation rate for the non-food group decreased to 8.7 percent in August from 10.5 percent in July.


Sri Lanka's inflation has been dropping steadily since September 2022 when the CCPI showed inflation was at 69.8 percent.
