KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Pashupati Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, leader of Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the senior-most member of the House of Representatives (HoR), has assumed the post of the House Speaker.
Rana reached the Federal Parliament Secretariat at Singha Durbar on Wednesday and assumed his office. Before assuming office, Rana reached the president’s residence at Sheetal Niwas and took the oath of office and secrecy as the senior-most member of parliament.
NC cannot govern the country: Rana
In a brief conversation with media persons after assuming office, Rana said that the role of the Speaker should be neutral and clear. He assured that he will play an impartial role as the speaker and the senior-most member of parliament.
Rana said that he will coordinate with all political parties for the welfare of the country. He promised to promote the spirit of democracy and the multiparty system in parliament.
He said, "The role of the Speaker should be clear and neutral. Everyone needs to cooperate for the welfare of the country. I will be coordinating with everyone. I will work to advance the spirit of democracy and the multiparty culture in parliament. At least for a few days, I will take the initiative to move the country forward as a guardian.”
