Home minister directs for 100% utilization of funds provided from state treasury

KATHMANDU, Sept 2: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has instructed the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to fully utilize the funds provided by the state.



Speaking at a meeting of the NDRRMA Executive Committee on Friday, Home Minister Khand directed the authority to make 100 percent utilization of the funds provided from the state treasury.

He said that it is necessary for the authority to be active in utilizing the funds given by the government for disaster risk reduction. Minister Khand also told the NDRRMA that the Public Procurement Act will be implemented and that funds should be spent according to the existing laws.


He mentioned that the disaster management fund should be utilized during disasters. He said that the funds sent for disaster risk reduction at the local level should be spent on disaster management. Minister Khand also instructed NDRRMA officials to seriously implement all the decisions made by the executive committee of the authority.


Home Minister Khand said that this year also due to rains, there has been huge damage due to floods and landslides in different parts of the country. He said that despite the funds provided by the government to the disaster risk reduction authority, there is no such technical manpower for disaster management at the local level and on the ground. He said that it is necessary to make the local rural municipalities responsible for disaster management and make them active.
