KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The High-level Probe Commission formed to investigate gold smuggling has requested the government to extend the deadline to submit its report by mid-March.
The Commission has urged the Government of Nepal, via the Ministry of Home Affairs, to grant an extension of the deadline facing constraints in compiling the report by the initial deadline of February 27.

Dilliraj Acharya, chairman of the Commission, explained that due to the need to analyze additional evidence and facts obtained from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, along with pending responses from certain agencies, the completion of the report has been delayed.
He requested that this extension period be understood as a silent period of the commission as the commission will study, analyze and prepare the report of the evidence received. He said that the commission will submit a report to the government by March 13.
The government formed the High-Level Probe Commission 2080 BS to address the issue of gold smuggling on October 1 last year.
The commission was mandated to submit a report within three months. After the study was not completed in three months, the commission was given an extension of two months.
Originally mandated to deliver its findings within three months, the commission was granted a two-month extension after the investigation was not completed within the timeframe.
